CECC-Translocal n. 5-teaser

CECC researcher Alexandra Lopes is guest coordinator of issue no. 5 of the journal Translocal: Culturas Contemporâneas Locais e Urbanas (2022), together with Jerónimo Pizarro, from Universidad de los Andes and Cátedra de Estudos Portugueses Fernando Pessoa, and the resident coordinator Ana Salgueiro, from Universidade da Madeira and CIERL.

Translocal has chosen translation as the cover topic of its next issue. As a journal concerned with the study, critical analysis and dissemination of contemporary local and urban cultural phenomena, it takes translation as an essential category of analysis, not only for the study and understanding of the relationship between texts and languages, but also, more broadly, for the study and understanding of eco-socio-cultural and academic systems, namely in what refers to issues such as identities, (in)definition of borders, and power dynamics.

Researchers, translators, artists and other cultural agents are invited to rethink, promote and unearth the structural translational phenomena of current cultural systems (see the call for papers for more details).

The call is open for:

  • Written essays and articles (between 2500 and 5000 words)
  • Visual essays (up to 5 images + accompanying text, between 500 and 1000 words)
  • Reviews (between 1000 and 2000 words)

Submission of proposals: by 30 June 2023, to translocal.revista@mail.uma.pt
