Abstract: This study aims to explore the relationship between the couple and the families of origin of its members. In a collaboration between the Institute of Family Sciences (ICF- FCH - UCP) and Silvia Donato and Miriam Parise from the Universitá Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (UCSC, Milan; Couple and Family Research Group), the aim of the study is to take a closer look at the complexity of couple relationships in contemporary society through a relational-symbolic lens, which has allowed us to read and understand the functioning of the couple, the construction of the couple's identity, the bond between the two members of the couple and their partner's parents. It specifically aims to understand which affective, attitudinal and behavioural variables of the parents-in-law are most related to the well-being and functional results of the couple, as well as the individual well-being of its members.
