Invited Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Human Sciences, UCP, where he teaches various courses in English Language and Writing at undergraduate and postgraduate level. He recently completed his PhD in Culture Studies (2026) with a thesis that explored the tension between the work and theory of the Situationist International and subsequent conceptualisations of ‘postmodernism’ through a (re)reading of a set of films by Jean-Luc Godard. Prior to finishing his PhD, Matthew earned a BA (First Class) in French and Italian from Manchester Metropolitan University and a MA (Distinction) in International Relations from the Brussels School of International Studies (University of Kent). His post-doctoral research focuses on contemporary cinematic representations of 20th century political history, the limits of cinema as social critique, and on broader debates in critical theory and avant-garde studies. He has an additional interest in the wider domains of popular culture, intellectual history and modern languages.
