The theme of the Lisbon Winter School for the Study of Communication in 2026 will be ‘Media and Courage’. This annual meeting brings together researchers and doctoral students from around the world to reflect on key issues in the field of communication in an international context.
The initiative is promoted by the Doctoral programme in Communication Studies and the Research Centre for Communication and Culture (CECC) of the Faculty of the Human Sciences, and is organised in partnership with the Center for Media@Risk at the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania. In addition, it is coordinated with the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California, the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania, the School of Journalism and Communication at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Institute for Social Sciences and Humanities at the University of Helsinki, and The Europaeum.
Taking place from 6 to 9 January 2026 at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the UCP campus and the Centro Cultural de Belém, the Lisbon Winter School will feature a number of keynote speakers, including:
