Introduction to Communication

Objectives:
  • Present the students the Communication field, both in its scientific and professional dimensions.
  • Give the students a critical and integrated knowledge of Communication as a complex and varied scientific field.
  • Present the seven traditions in communication sciences as a way of mapping this scientific field.
  • Present classic theories in Communication Sciences.
  • Explore in more depth some fundamental theories in Communication Sciences.
Competences:
  • Understanding the articulation between communication as a professional area and as a scientific field.
  • Knowing and understanding the seven traditions in communication sciences, as well as place theories within them.
  • Knowing some of the most recent theories, articulate them with their tradition and with classical theories that inspired them, and to apply them in practical contexts.
  • Develop critical reasoning and creativity.
