"A Centralidade do Jornalismo em Tempos de Incerteza" is the theme of the talk delivered by Professor Nelson Ribeiro, as part of the opening of the undergraduate programs in Communication Studies at the Escola de Comunicação, Artes e Design da Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (Famecos/PUCRS). 

Besides the uncertainty regarding the job, the Dean of the Faculty of Human Sciences will also discuss the precariousness of the area, as well as the concerns of the big brands in the face of digitalization and the emergence of new virtual media.

The challenges of the last decade on the growth of fake news and new information sources that have impacted media companies also compose the topics to be discussed. With the intention of demonstrating how Journalism has become a target of disinformation and populist movements, it will be debated how these phenomena are the result of the centrality of the journalistic agenda and how it is used by political and economic agents with the goal of giving credibility to the information, true and false, that proliferates online and offline.
