Vocational and Career Developmental Psychology

5 ECTS / Semester / Portuguese

The world of work today due to social, economic and political factors, namely situations of uncertainty, insecurity, instability, unpredictability and mobility, imply the development of new career skills. Hence the need for training of psychologists in the field of guidance for young people, career development of adults and management of human resources in companies.

This course has the following learning goals:

  • Acquire knowledge on concepts, mechanisms and conditions of the development of life and career projects;
  • Describe and analyze the assumptions, developmental tasks, and behaviors characteristic of vocational development throughout the life cycle and with specific populations;
  • Understand the general principles of vocational intervention throughout the life cycle, and acquire knowledge on the diversity of materials appropriate to this intervention;
  • Know, critically analyze, and simulate the use of vocational guidance programs and personal and organizational career management.
