Statistics for Communication

6 ECTS / Semester / Portuguese
Objectives:
The course is an introduction to statistics that aims to provide the fundamental techniques of analysis of quantitative data and apply those techniques to real situations. Students will be enabled to use the SPSS software.

Competencies:
  • Make descriptive and exploratory analysis of a sample data;
  • Construct and interpret frequency graphs;
  • Calculate and interpret measures of tendency;
  • Calculate and interpret measures of variation;
  • Calculate and interpret measures of skewness and kurtosis;
  • Analyze paired data with contingency tables and measures of association;
  • Perform a descriptive statistical analysis with the SPSS program;
  • Understanding the concept of random variable and the special cases of the normal and binomial distributions;
  • Understanding the concepts of sampling distributions and confidence intervals;
  • Understanding and be able to apply the concept of parametric statistical tests.
