Modern Philosophy

6 ECTS / Semester / Portuguese

The course aims to offer the students the conceptual tools to understand the origin and evolution of modern philosophical thought, regarding the relations between philosophy and science as they arose during contemporaneous movements of religious reform, with the deep social and cultural changes that characterised this period. It also aims to engage the students with its major texts, namely from Montaigne, Machiavelli, Descartes, Locke, Rousseau and Kant.
