PhD candidate in Communication Sciences at ISCTE-IUL (University Institute of Lisbon) and master in Communication, he also holds the title of Specialist in Journalism obtained by public examinations. He has a long carrer as journalist: worked at Anop and Lusa portuguese news agencies between 1984 e 1989 and was part of the founding team of the daily newspaper Público, whose staff he belonged to beween 1989 and 2016, having been editor for several periods. He has been studying the press of the late colonialism in Angola and participated as researcher in projects of the School of Communication and Media Studies (ESCS-IPL) about media coverage of elections in Portuguese speaking countries. He has articles published in several indexed journals and his master's thesis on the coverage of the East Timor crisis of 1999 was published in a book. His main interests of investigation are journalism, history of the media, ethics in communication, media and politics, media literacy and lusophone issues. He is a member of the Pedagogical Council of Cenjor, public portuguese training center for journalists, proposed by the portuguese Journalists’ Union.
