Associate professor at UCP – Universidade Católica Portuguesa. He earned a PhD in Social Work (specialisation: social policy and social movements) in 2001. He lectures on social work history, social research and social policy. He is an integrated researcher of the Católica Research Centre For Psychological, Family and Social Wellbeing, a member of the European Social Work Research Association - ESWRA, and a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the Critical and Radical Social Work journal. His recent research has focused on poverty studies, adequate income, the social minimum regime in Portugal, the engagement of social workers in social policies, and foster care for children and young people. He publishes on various themes such as social work research, social work history, the social work profession, poverty and social welfare.
Current research interests include poverty studies, social protection policies and minimum regimes, social policy practice in social work, the history of social work, and child welfare.
