Doctorate in Theology (Gregorian University; Rome).

He is Vice-Rector of the UCP. He teaches Social Moral Theology at the Faculty of Theology, and Social Doctrine of the Church at the Institute of Political Studies at UCP.

He is a member of the Scientific Society of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa. He is the Scientific Coordinator of the e-learning course "Christian Social Thought. Memory and Project" at the Faculty of Theology.

Doctor specializing in Pathological Anatomy at the Francisco Gentil Portuguese Institute of Oncology in Lisbon. He is Vice-President of the Ethics Committee of the ARS of Lisboa e Vale do Tejo. He was President of the Portuguese Society of Cytology.
He is President of the Research Ethics Council of the UCP.

He is a priest of the Diocese of Lisbon. Member of the Presbyteral Council (coordinator of the Permanent Secretariat) and Ecclesiastical Consultant to the Lisbon Patriarchate. He is Secretary of the Episcopal Commission for Social Pastoral Care and Human Mobility, Director of the National Secretariat for Social Pastoral Care and National Coordinator of Health Pastoral Care. He is Ecclesiastical Assistant to the National Justice and Peace Commission and to Caritas.
