Theory of Contemporary Social Work

6 ECTS / Semester / Portuguese
Critically understand and discuss the process of knowledge construction in Social Work at the present time, namely the challenges of coordinating scientific knowledge, practical knowledge and "indigenous" knowledge. Develop profound discussion on the contemporary (re)configuration of the theory of social work in the light of the contributions made by current social thought and theory and their respective applications in professional practice. Promote full debate and current interpretations of the core values of social work and their influences in the context of research and intervention. At the end of the curricular unit, PhD students should be able to critically discuss the major scientific and contemporary axiological orientations and their respective implications for the production of knowledge and the practice of social work.
