Objectives:
- Understand the different meanings and uses of theory in Social Work;
- Distinguish between paradigms, theories, and models of professional practice;
- Become familiar with and understand illustrative and significant theoretical approaches for Social Work practice, as a discipline and a profession of social intervention;
- Develop reflective and critical thinking regarding the application of theoretical models in diverse intervention contexts;
- Strengthen the articulation between theory, values, and professional practice.

Competences:
- Conceptual understanding of paradigms in Social Work;
- Become familiar with theoretical categorisation proposals in Social Work: origins, specific domains of development, potentialities and limitations;
- Understand, apply, and critically engage with different Social Work theories, including their assumptions and key components.
