Philosophy of Mind and Consciousness

6 ECTS / Semester / Portuguese
This course introduces students to the fundamental concepts and themes of the Philosophy of Mind, to enable them to participate in an informed way in the contemporary discussion of these themes. Students should acquire skills that allow them to reflect on possible answers to the following questions: “What is the relationship between the mind and the body? Is the mind an exclusively physical phenomenon? Does the mind work like a computer? Can machines think? Where does consciousness emerge from?” The analysis of these questions will cover a historical path that begins with Descartes' philosophy and continues today with the discussion on the properties of Artificial Intelligence.
