- Understanding the socio-historical context that led to the establishment of rights-based societies and the proclamation of Human Rights enshrined in the UDHR;
- Presenting the main historical figures in Social Work who fought for the defense and guarantee of Human Rights;
- Identifying and becoming familiar with the international conventions arising from the UDHR that are fundamental in Social Work intervention contexts;
- Identifying the main international documents and guidelines on Human Rights for Social Workers;
- Situating the defense of Human Rights within the current framework of the European Union and Portugal;
- Promoting reflective thinking on the place of Human Rights within the ethical framework and in the context of Social Work intervention;
- Developing critical thinking and debate on the challenges that the promotion and defense of Human Rights pose to SW in contemporary society;
- Grounding and fostering the necessary competences for Social Work intervention based on Human Rights.
