Ethics and Deontology of Communication

6 ECTS / Semester / Portuguese
Objectives:
  • Introduce students in the contemporary problems of ethics and ethics of communication.
  • Mastering the problems with intelligence and critical thinking: themes, texts and philosophical positions of the ethical theories.
  • Understand the principles and the dimensions of deontology. Reflect on the importance of the deontology for organizations working in the area of communication.

Competences:
  • To understand: the specificity of ethical knowledge.
  • The person as basic value of Ethics and Deontology in Communication in order to be able to: analyse different philosophical perspectives on the fundaments of ethics; interrelate those perspectives in their common elements and differences; apply, in a critical way, his/her own knowledge in professional and personal contexts.
  • Know how to respond to the Deontological challenges that professionals face in everyday communication practice, particularly in journalism, advertising, public relations and new media.
