The Indian and Pacific Oceans in World History

6 ECTS / Semester / Portuguese

The Indo-Pacific emerged as a concept relatively late, but it has been in the making since around 1570 with the first globalization, connecting two maritime worlds with different backgrounds. Since then, the Indo-Pacific evolved from the periphery of the Atlantic to occupy the central stage in the 21st century. The aim of this seminar is to study its evolution and to analyse the economic, political, cultural, social and security issues that the region faces today.
