The Faculty of Human Sciences of Universidade Católica Portuguesa marked the beginning of a new academic year with an environmental activity in partnership with the European environmental education project - Coastwatch - coordinated nationally by GEOTA (Study Group for Spatial Planning and the Environment).

FCH gathered about 200 new students in a field trip in the Tagus River Estuary, between Parque das Nações and the Trancão River. The activity started with an introduction to the ecology of the coastal zone. This was followed by a walking trail, in which the participants collected waste, contributing to the cleaning of the estuary.

"It was a unique opportunity for the new students to get to know their classmates, while at the same time contributing to cleaning up one of the banks of the Tagus River. Not only did the students make new friends but they also showed their commitment to contribute to a cleaner Common House" explains Prof. Nelson Ribeiro, Dean of the Faculty of Human Sciences of Universidade Católica Portuguesa.

This initiative was part of the annual social responsibility project "FCH Solidária- O Outro em Nós " which aims to promote social interaction among the academic community and to contribute to a current and pressing cause.

This activity closed the welcome program for new undergraduate students of 2022/2023 and impacted students from five courses: Communication and Cultural Sciences, Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE), Applied Foreign Languages, Social Work and Psychology.
