After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the Faculty of Human Sciences announces, on International Translation Day, the return of the Translation Prize.
The contest, which recognizes the best translations into Portuguese from texts in English, German, French or Spanish, aims to give visibility and dignity to the translation activity, as well as stimulate the students' enthusiasm for foreign languages. The contest is aimed at students in the 11th and 12th grades.
"Translation is increasingly relevant in a globalized world, where it is expected that professionals are able to communicate proficiently in at least one foreign language" explains Professor Alexandra Lopes, FCH Associate Dean and President of the Organization Committee of the Translation Prize. "The Translation Prize has had a huge impact on secondary school students over the years, with more than 17,000 participants in its 20 editions" she adds.
The winners of the 21st edition will be announced on April 30, 2023, and the prizes will be awarded in a ceremony that will take place on May 19, at Universidade Católica Portuguesa, in Lisbon.
