Documentary directed by an alumna of the Undergraduate Degree in Communication and Cultural Sciences receives the award for Best Documentary Feature Film

Cesária Évora (2022), a documentary directed by Ana Sofia Fonseca, an alumna of the Undergraduate Degree in Communication and Cultural Sciences, won the award for Best Documentary Feature Film at the 12th edition of the Sophia Awards. The award ceremony took place on May 21.

The documentary was screened at film festivals worldwide, including SXSW, IDFA, DOC NYC, Sheffield Doc Fest, Jeon Ju Film Festival, Krakow Film Festival, and Festival do Rio. The film was also nominated Best Music Film at the IDA Awards, and won the Public Audience Award at Indie Lisboa Film Festival and at Caminhos do Cinema Português.

Ana Sofia Fonseca was a journalist for 20 years before dedicating herself to cinema and documentaries. She worked for Público, Expresso, Grande Reportagem, and Egoísta, and won several awards, such as the Gazeta Award, the AMI Journalism Against Indifference Award, the Human Rights and Integration Award, given by UNESCO, and the Corações Com Coroa Award.
