Israel Campos, a former student on the Master’s degree in Communication Studies, has won the 2nd edition of the Imprensa Nacional-Casa da Moeda/Angola Literature Award, which aims to distinguish unpublished prose works by Angolan citizens or those who have lived in Angola for at least 5 years, thus encouraging literary creation in this country.

Israel, who competed under the pseudonym "Ngangula" with the work Baloiço de Memória, will have his work published by Imprensa Nacional imprint, and will receive a cash prize of €5,000.

Ondjaki, Aníbal João Ribeiro and Jorge Reis-Sá formed the jury for this edition and said that the work “stood out for addressing memory in its most diverse facets, highlighting issues such as identity and the internal conflicts that are so typical of man. In essence, the author, through original writing, makes a personal reflection, exploring family, social and historical dynamics, within an individual and collective context.”

The jury also mentions that Baloiço de Memória invites us “to reflect on life, memory and happiness and, most importantly, to recognize the richness of the experiences that make us human”.

Congratulations, Israel!
