PhD in Media and Culture Studies awarded by the University of Lincoln, Nelson Ribeiro is the Dean of the Faculty of Human Sciences since January 2016 where he also Coordinates the Department of Communication Studies since 2013. Member of the Board at the Research Center for Communication and Culture (CECC), he coordinates the research group “Media Narratives and Cultural Memory”. Presently, he is the Principal Investigator of the project Broadcasting in the Portuguese Empire: Nationalism, Colonialism and Identity financed by the Portuguese Science Foundation (FCT) and the European Union, and coordinator of the Portuguese team of the project Compact – Social Media and Convergence financed in the framework of Horizon 2020. In 2018 he founded the Lisbon Winter School for the Study of Communication, an annual gathering for PhD students and senior scholars organized in partnership with the Annenberg School for Communication (University of Pennsylvania), the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the London School of Economics and Political Science and the University of Helsinki. His main research interests are media and propaganda history, journalism studies and political economy of the media.
