Learning goals: To discuss concepts such as exile and diaspora, Spanish identity and the identity of Spain. To understand the Civil War (1936-1939) as the foundational trauma of contemporary Spain. To reflect on the role of intellectuals in the aftermath of the war and during Francoism. To contrast the exile of 1939 with other exiles during the Dictatorship. To understand the broad social, political, ideological and cultural debates about "historical memory".
