Ioli Campos

Bio

With a PhD in Digital Media within the University of Texas at Austin / Portugal Colab, Campos is an assistant professor at the Portuguese Catholic University, since 2020. In 2011, she was a Fulbright visiting scholar to the USA. Researcher at ICNova, she is currently co-coordinating the transnational project “Influencers Trust Label”, funded by the preparatory action call Media Literacy for All from the European Commission. She is also part of the European Consortium “Fighting Fake News: A New Literacies Approach for Young People", funded by the EU Consortia Incentive Fund. Her main research interest areas include media literacy and journalism. Campos is author of several scholarly articles indexed to the Web of Science and/or Scopus and of the literary work “Se eu morrer, publica isto”. As an international consultant in media literacy and journalism, she has been involved in projects from the Council of Europe, from the Rights, Equality and Citizenship Program from the European Union and from the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe. Before her academic career, Campos worked for over 15 years as a journalist. Her work was published regularly at the newspaper Público and at the newsmagazine Sábado, among several other news media companies. She devoted her journalism career mostly to the coverage of human rights issues, having reported from Kosovo, Algeria, Egypt, Cambodia, Vietnam, Iceland, Finland and USA, among other places. She was awarded the reportage prize from the United Nations National Committee for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
