Translation of Literary Texts in German

5 ECTS / Semestral / Portuguese

This course aims to consolidate, through the practice of translation, the study of the literary text in the context of the Portuguese and German languages and cultures. Based on the knowledge of the Portuguese and the German language literary traditions, this course presents itself as a space for reading and critically reflecting on literature and translation on the one hand and, on the other hand, as a workshop for the (re)writing of literary translations. This course will attempt to examine the linguistic and socio-cultural specificities of the German language literary text in relation to its translation and reception in the Portuguese literary system, as well as to develop the translator’s critical stance towards his or her own translation work.
