Theories of Representation

5 ECTs / Semester / Portuguese

This discipline aims to problematize the various theories of representation, as well as their genealogy and operability in relation to cultural objects. The representational dynamics will be analyzed from diverse examples, both artistic (fine arts, cinema, music, among others) and vernacular (selfies, advertising, coins) that will allow students to acquire hermeneutic skills. At the same time, the way in which representation is closely linked to the creation of power structures and mechanisms that establish identity in a field of differences will be analyzed.
