Rita Faria

Assistant Professor

Bio

Rita Faria is Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Humanities, Catholic University of Portugal where she teaches Linguistics, Portuguese as Foreign Language, Discourse Analysis and English. She also coordinates the Master in Linguistics for EFL Teachers. She holds an M.Phil in Linguistics from the University of Cambridge and a PhD by the Catholic University of Portugal with a thesis on linguistic politeness in Portuguese and in English. Her research interests focus on addressivity, forms of address, language and social class, verbal aggression, computer-mediated communication and language and identity. She is a member of the NETLANG project, which investigates the language of cyberbullying and online prejudice and discrimination in annotated comparable corpora of Portuguese and English. She is also interested in translation and literature and is a regular contributor to the literary project Jogos Florais (https://www.jogosflorais.com), dedicated to poetry, criticism, translation and culture.
