The curricular unit Translation of General Texts (German) aims to consolidate, through the practice of translation, the students’ knowledge of the Portuguese and German languages and cultures. Designed as a survey course, it intends to give students the opportunity to translate texts from a variety of social contexts and with different purposes, paying particular attention to the target context where the translations circulate. The course promotes a critical reflection on the concept of translation and adresses the question of what skills the translator should have, drawing attention to the differences between texts from various contexts (typology, function, audience).
