CECC researcher Mário Franco Barros, together with Joaquim Pinheiro and Samuel Mateus, has recently published the volume Pestes e Epidemias: Estudos Interdisciplinares em Humanidades [Plagues and Epidemics: Interdisciplinary Studies in the Humanities] (Edições Húmus).

The book launch will take place on June 8, by 11 AM, at Pátio 2 - Colégio dos Jesuítas, Universidade da Madeira. The presentation will be hosted by Professor Ivo Furtado.

About the book:

Pestes e Epidemias: Estudos Interdisciplinares em Humanidades [Plagues and Epidemics: Interdisciplinary Studies in the Humanities] brings together sixteen studies which analyse, in different historical moments, the ability to react, resist and surmount the various diseases that have shadowed the development of human societies. In addition to their contribution to the knowledge on the influence of plagues and epidemics on culture and society, the studies collected in this volume enable an interdisciplinary reflection on our comprehension of the causes and consequences of these outbreaks. Encompassing several areas in the Humanities, from narratives to more artistic creations, there is, in effect, a sizeable cultural legacy whose study must be continued.
