4Cs: 4+4 proposals for a world in transformation

Tuesday, April 7, 2020 - 10:26

Today, under the circumstances, we are forced to accept social isolation for our own sake and survival. This isolation has individual but also collective consequences, with physical, psychological, social, economic, and cultural dimensions.

The 4Cs project, at the Research Centre for Communication and Culture (CECC), understands art and culture precisely as tools for analyzing these dimensions but also as a space for meeting and participating in the world in which we live. And this world is changing at a speed that is almost impossible to grasp and process. Many of us can enjoy the privilege of stopping to reflect on the comfort of the silence we have built. But, for so many of us, stopping and being silent is not an option because any interregnum of activity means lack of income and practical consequences that result from it.

During the month of April, while we are deprived of seeing material translations of art in the physical world, we invited four artists and four curators to reflect and act, via the immaterial 4Cs virtual space, on the current moment. Every week, an artist (Jabulani Maseko; Joana Patrão; Cristina Mejias; Gregor Graf) and a curator (Sofia Steinvorth; Maria Eduarda Duarte; Andreia César; Teresa Pinheiro) will share their reflections on a collective construction of a place of solidarity and conviviality.

Everyone is invited to stop. And to act. Each one at the pace one can and decides to take.
