Program Description

The Faculty of Human Sciences has launched the first Degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) in Portugal, one of the most prestigious degrees in Europe and North America

Offering an interdisciplinary perspective which is novel in Portugal, the degree aims to provide students with a broad and integrated approach to the challenges facing contemporary societies.

The course combines three areas of knowledge, training students on how to exercise their professional life with a grounding in critical reflection, and enabling them to respond to the challenges of contemporary societies. The degree combines learning to think with learning to act, and learning to make.

Development of critical and reflective thought, fostering an ethically sound discussion on the challenges facing human societies.

Acquisition of in-depth knowledge of political institutions and processes in the global community.

Understanding the workings of contemporary economies and the role of institutions and economic agents.

This program thus aims to train competent and ethically responsible professionals with a critical ethos, able to respond to the major social, political and economic issues of today at a national and international level.

Internationally, the Undergraduate Degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics has been attended by international leaders such as Bill Clinton and David Cameron and, more recently, by human rights activist Malala Yousafzai, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014.
