The objectives include: develop working habits, methodology and translation competences through the intensive practice of translation of literary texts from English into Portuguese, with the work comprising different literary genres, modes and distinct target-reader profiles; to learn how to undertake conscious, weighted and justifiable translation options when faced with particular translation problems; to be able to critically discuss the consequences that the current hegemonic status of English as lingua franca have on the tasks and challenges of 21st-century English-Portuguese translators of literature, to improve written expression in Portuguese and to enrich lexical knowledge in both English and Portuguese.
