Media, Propaganda and Populisms

6 ECTS / Semester / Portuguese

The curricular unit offers students knowledge about how the media have been used, in different geographical and temporal locations, as instruments of propaganda and dissemination of political ideas, in particular populist projects.

At the end of the course unit students should be able to:

  1. problematize the concept of propaganda in its different dimensions;
  2. understand the centrality of the media in contemporary propaganda activities;
  3. understand the communication strategies used by populist movements in a diachronic perspective.
