Managing People in Organizations

6 ECTS / Semester / English

Organizations pervasively influence people’s lives. Because of our extensive contact with them, we often assume that we have a good understanding of organizations and the people working in them. However, due to their complexity, this is often a flawed assumption.
The objectives of this course are therefore the following:

  1. Through a focus on Organizational Behavior/Work Psychology concepts, it aims to enhance students’ understanding of central aspects of human behavior in organizations; 
  2. Through a focus on Human Resource Management concepts and tools, it aims to explore techniques that can improve how we manage people at work and enhance organizational effectiveness; 
  3. To improve skills in problem identification & analysis, and in intervention design & implementation;
  4. To improve competencies critical to future success as organizational actors, e.g., analytical thinking, teamwork, decision-making, and communication.
