Goals:
- provide an overall perspective of the Western thought on translation.
- acquaint students with the main enquiry lines in contemporary Translation Studies.
- unsettle preconceived notions about translation and discuss concepts such as “accuracy”, “equivalence”, “original”, etc.
- reflect on the researcher’s place in the research, thereby promoting self-reflexiveness and the awareness that all knowledge is situated;
- promote the critical reading of texts from different epochs and invite robust reflection on translation as a crucial cultural phenomenon for production of worlds, be they tangible, fictional and/or alternative worlds.
