12 ECTS / Semester / Portuguese

Goals:

  • provide an overall perspective of the Western thought on translation.
  • acquaint students with the main enquiry lines in contemporary Translation Studies.
  • unsettle preconceived notions about translation and discuss concepts such as “accuracy”, “equivalence”, “original”, etc.
  • reflect on the researcher’s place in the research, thereby promoting self-reflexiveness and the awareness that all knowledge is situated;
  • promote the critical reading of texts from different epochs and invite robust reflection on translation as a crucial cultural phenomenon for production of worlds, be they tangible, fictional and/or alternative worlds.
