Mudam-se os tempos, mudam-se as traduções? is the new volume in the book collection Estudos de Comunicação e Cultura/ Cognition and Translatability, edited by Alexandra Lopes and Maria Lin Moniz. 

This collection of essays should be regarded as a political gesture, in the broad understanding of the word. It seeks to discuss and acknowledge the bonds between translation and (r)evolution throughout time. If one accepts the premise that translations, as discreet as they might be, always introduce something new into a culture, then their impact cannot be disconnected from the idea of change, oftentimes radical. 

The book is composed of thirteen essays, written by Translation Studies specialists from different nationalities (Portuguese, Brazilian, British and Swiss), who were invited to write in European Portuguese. Each text examines the ways in which translation implies, in diverse ways, a transgression – a passage (leap?) between languages and worldviews. 

The essays are grouped into four sections:

I.Translation as a conservative strategy; 

II.The place of women and sexuality in translations produced during the Estado Novo; 

III.The translation of literature for children and young adults;

IV.The impact of the Portuguese revolution of 1974 on translations created during the 70s.
