The deadline for submitting proposals for the XIII Lisbon Summer School for the Study of Culture, dedicated to the topic of “Future/Futures”, has been extended to 17 March 2023.
The event relies on the idea that while, for centuries, one used to think about the future in a positive way, foreseeing a generalized progress of the world especially in fields such as science and technology, optimism has slowly but steadily been turning into discomfort, namely due to the growing awareness about scientific development’s immense capability to cause pain and infortune. Furthermore, people are more and more conscious of the differences between cultural contexts and the uneven capability of individuals throughout the globe to shape the future to come. Therefore, future must be graphed in the plural, as futures culturally situated in distinct global realities.
