Cosmology

5 ECTS / Semester / Portuguese

This curricular unit has as its major objective to provide the knowledge of the main cosmological models that have emerged throughout the history of ideas, from classical antiquity to the present day. At the end of the semester, students should be able to critically analyse the different conceptions about place of the human in the cosmos, through the way in which the progress of knowledge has been established, from mythological cosmogonies to the indeterminism of contemporary physics, through the theocentric and anthropocentric that accompanied the geocentric and heliocentric models, ending with the contact with the current perplexities that theoretical physicists face in our days.
