Generic Bio

Sofia da Costa Pessoa is a PhD candidate in the program of Culture Studies at the Faculty of Human Sciences, Catholic University of Portugal, Lisbon, and a collaborator at the Research Centre for Communication and Culture.

She is finishing the writing of a thesis entitled “Museums and popular culture in the 21st century”. The case studies covered are the Portuguese Museum of Popular Art (MAP) in Lisbon and the French Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilizations (MuCem), in Marseille.

She was the curator of the exhibition and of the catalogue titled “Zoom in / zoom out - António Garcia, Designer”, held at the Museum of Fashion and Design – MUDE (2010).
She had worked in the promotion of both the events Lisbon’ 94 - European Capital of Culture (1994) and Expo'98 - International Exhibition (1998).

She holds a Master’s Degree in Museology from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Lisbon University (FBAUL) with a dissertation on the work of the Portuguese contemporary designer António Garcia, a Post Graduation in Arts and Management (INA) and a Degree in Public Relations and Advertising (INP).

Her main areas of interest are Museology, Design and Popular Culture.
