Doutorada em Media Digitais no programa da Universidade do Texas em Austin / Portugal Colab, é desde 2020 professora auxiliar convidada na Universidade Católica Portuguesa. Em 2011, foi investigadora visitante Fulbright. Investigadora do ICNova, co-coordena atualmente o projeto “Influencers Trust Label”, financiado pela acção preparatória Media Literacy for All, da Comissão Europeia. Integra o consórcio europeu “Fighting Fake News: A New Literacies Approach for Young People", financiado pelo EU Consortia Incentive Fund. As suas principais áreas de investigação são a literacia para os media e o jornalismo. É autora de várias publicações académicas indexadas à Web of Science e Scopus e da obra literária “Se eu morrer, publica isto”. Enquanto consultora internacional em literacia para os media e jornalismo integrou projectos do Conselho da Europa, do Programa Direitos, Igualdade e Cidadania da União Europeia e da Organização para Segurança e Cooperação Europeia. Antes da carreira académica, trabalhou mais de 15 anos como jornalista. Colaborou com o jornal Público e com a revista Sábado, entre outros órgãos de comunicação. Fez sobretudo grande reportagem na área dos direitos humanos a nível internacional, tendo passado pelo Kosovo, Argélia, Egipto, Cambodja, Vietname, Islândia, Finlândia e Estados Unidos, entre outros. Desse tempo, destaca-se o prémio de reportagem que o Comité Nacional das Nações Unidas para a Comemoração do 50º aniversário da Declaração Universal dos Direitos do Homem lhe atribuiu.
