Early Bird

  • Applications:  January 20 to March 5 (from 09:00:00 until 23:59:59 GMT)

Admission Requirements

  • BA and MA Degree preferably in a related field of studies (Humanities and Social Sciences);
  • English Language Certificate – minimum CEFR C1 (taken after January 2024)*:
    • IELTS 7.0 minimum;
    • TOEFL 100 + minimum 24 in all skills;
    • Cambridge Advanced Certificate;
    • Cambridge Proficiency;
    • CEFR C1;
    • Aptis ESOL Advanced C1 minimum. 

*The Faculty of Human Sciences does not accept Certificates of exams taken at home/online. Candidates without a Language Certificate may sit for a test at the Faculty (cost: €150.00); result of minimum C1 required.

Note: Candidates from English-speaking countries (native speakers) and candidates who have completed their master's degree in English, and necessarily in English-speaking countries (specifically: Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, United Kingdom and United States of America), are exempt from presenting the C1 English language certificate. Other countries will not be considered and candidates will have to present a valid English certificate.

 

Documents required for the application

  • Curriculum Vitae in English;
  • University Transcripts of Records - Original documents should be presented until October 30;
  • Preliminary research project (max. 15.000 characters);
  • Motivation Letter (2 pages max.) - the motivation letter should introduce you to the selection committee, explain why you have chosen this program and why you would be a good fit;
  • English Language Certificate;
  • Identification document (Passport or ID card).

Note: Besides those mentioned above, any other documents that Applicants find relevant to their application may be included.

Note: All Degrees earned abroad, Transcripts and Certificates must be authenticated by the Portuguese Consulate or Embassy located in the country where the course was completed or by Consulate and Embassy services of the foreign countries in Portugal or with the Apostille Stamp for any country that is part of the Hague Convention and duly translated into Portuguese (if not in English, French or Spanish).

 

Application Process

Step 1 - Account Creation

In order to start the application, you must:

After creating an account, you will receive the access data in your email. Once you have access data, you may proceed to formalize your application on https://applications.fch.lisboa.ucp.pt .

If you do not remember your username or password, you should access the email address https://applications.fch.lisboa.ucp.pt/passwordResetRequest and follow the instructions to recover your username or password.

 

Step 2 - Application, Personal Information and Mandatory Documentation

You must select the program(s) to which you wish to apply. You may apply for up to three program(s), listed in order of preference.

After selecting the program(s), you must complete all required personal information and upload the mandatory documentation.

Note: Before submitting your application, we recommend that you confirm it is complete, as no changes will be possible after submission.

 

Step 3 - Payment of the application fee

After submitting your application, you must proceed with the payment of the non-refundable application fee. Please note that the application will only be considered complete once the fee has been paid.

 

Step 4 - Additional information

Once the application has been validated, an interview with the candidate will be scheduled (international interviews will be conducted via Microsoft Teams).

If you do not yet have an English Language Certificate as required, your admission will be conditional until you provide us with a valid test score.

 

Step 5 - Final Decision and Next Steps

The Selection Committee reviews your application and makes a final decision.

The application results will be published on the platform and communicated by email on the dates previously announced.

The outcome of the application may be one of the following:

  • Admitted: The candidate is admitted to the program applied for.
  • Conditionally Admitted: The candidate is conditionally admitted to the program, with final enrolment subject to the fulfilment of the requirements indicated.
  • Not Admitted: The candidate is not admitted to the selected programme option(s).

Regardless of the outcome, all candidates will receive a personalised email indicating the final result of their application. In cases of Admission or Conditional Admission, the email will also include detailed information regarding the enrolment process.

The candidate must indicate whether or not they accept the offer of admission. To accept the offer, it is necessary to follow the instructions provided in the email and proceed with the payment of the stated amount, which includes the enrolment fee and the first tuition instalment for September, within the specified deadline.

Note:

  • The Selection Committee decision is final and conclusive;
  • Students are not allowed to apply more than once per Intake (double applications will not be considered and related application fees will not be refunded).​
