Ambassador Robert A. Sherman of Boston, Massachusetts serves as Senior Counsel at Greenberg Traurig, one of the largest international law firms in the U.S. He was appointed by President Barack Obama as United States Ambassador to the Portuguese Republic, serving from 2014-2017. As ambassador, he engaged in 21st century economic and strategic diplomacy. He is well known for his innovative and effective engagement with government officials, business leaders, and educational institutions on both sides of the Atlantic. He is the author of a seminal book on leadership that was published in Portugal in December, 2018.  

For his work in Portugal, President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa awarded him the Grand Cross of the Order of Prince Henry the Navigator in March, 2017. 

Ambassador Sherman holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Rochester and a J.D. from Boston University School of Law.
