Monday, June 4, 2018 - 18:24

Coordinated by researcher Professor Nelson Ribeiro, “Broadcasting in the Portuguese Empire: Nationalism, Colonialism, Identity” is a new research project hosted by CECC, aimed at understanding how the Estado Novo regime used the broadcasting system to promote nationalist discourses in colonial territories.

The project has been approved for funding by both FCT and FEDER, and will run between July 2018 and July 2021. Working at the intersection of communication studies and history, "Broadcasting the Empire" is set to make a substantial contribution to the scientific debate on media studies and the empire, by pursuing a comparative approach to analyse the use of media as instruments of political propaganda in Portugal.
