Health Psychology and Wellbeing: Theoretical models and application domains

To understand the interaction between physical well-being and various psychosocial factors. To identify the psychological factors associated to various physical ailments and describe the mechanisms involved. To understand the stress response and its impact on the ethology and development of health problems. To describe the factors that determine the adoption of medical recommendations and treatments. To understand how people live and cope with serious illnesses. To describe and compare health related behaviour change models and their respective implications for interventions. To critically analyse health promotion and disease prevention programs. To design plans for the modification of health-relevant behaviours. To understand the contribution of Psychology towards the promotion of health, disease prevention, rehabilitation and adjustment in contexts of acute, chronic and terminal illness.
