Descrição do Programa

The Master's Program in Culture Studies is part of a network hosted by the Lisbon Consortium that brings together the academy and the art world through a partnership between the MA and PhD Programs in Culture Studies at Universidade Católica Portuguesa and prominent cultural institutions in Lisbon (Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Cinemateca Portuguesa, Museu Nacional do Teatro e da Dança, Culturgest, Fundação Oriente, Centro Nacional de Cultura, Oceanário de Lisboa, Parques de Sintra-Monte da Lua, Fundação EDP, Fundação Millennium BCP, Fundação Amélia de Mello e Câmara Municipal de Lisboa).

The MA Program is ranked #4 in the world by the Eduniversal Best Master’s Ranking in Cultural Management/Creative Industries Management. It targets mainly students from the Humanities and Social Sciences, although not exclusively, and aims at promoting advanced training in the multidisciplinary field of Culture Studies and fostering a structured discussion of cultural phenomena.

The Management of the Arts and Culture track is perhaps the most practical branch of the Master’s Program in Culture Studies and is designed to prepare students for a career in the cultural sector. It combines an admittedly theoretical discussion about the complexity of the art system in a globalized world with some practically-oriented modules designed to develop skills in the fields of curatorship, cultural management and cultural production. This track tackles the main issues in the study of culture and promotes a meaningful and comprehensive critical reflection about the arts so as to form effective thinkers and managers in the cultural field.

Main focus:
