Descrição do Programa

The Master's Program in Culture Studies is part of a network hosted by the Lisbon Consortium that brings together the academy and the art world through a partnership between the MA and PhD Programs in Culture Studies at Universidade Católica Portuguesa and prominent cultural institutions in Lisbon (Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Cinemateca Portuguesa, Museu Nacional do Teatro e da Dança, Culturgest, Fundação Oriente, Centro Nacional de Cultura, Oceanário de Lisboa, Parques de Sintra-Monte da Lua, Fundação EDP, Fundação Millennium BCP, Fundação Amélia de Mello e Câmara Municipal de Lisboa).

The MA Program is ranked #3 in the world by the Eduniversal Best Master’s Ranking in Cultural Management/Creative Industries Management. It targets mainly students from the Humanities and Social Sciences, although not exclusively, and aims at promoting advanced training in the multidisciplinary field of Culture Studies and fostering a structured discussion of cultural phenomena.

The Literary Cultures track in the Master’s Program in Culture Studies discusses the ways in which literature speaks to and of our present-day culture and its challenges while preserving (and activating) a reservoir of past experience. As a form of knowledge, literature interacts and intersects with other discursive practices to better understand the world we live in. Using literature as blueprint, the different seminars investigate how culture is produced, works and shapes individual minds, as well as communities. Literary Cultures focuses on discursive formations and their effects on everyday life, as well as other cultural expressions, thus engaging in cross-cultural, transdisciplinary dialogues that showcase the immense complexity of cultural practices and worldviews

Although the track has undoubtedly a speculative penchant, it explores topics relevant in/to the global present – e.g. identity, storytelling, agency, mediation –, and prepares students to critically reflect about knowledge production in the cultural sector, as well as in other fields of human experience.
