Rui Gaspar has a PhD in Psychology, specialization in Social Psychology (University of Lisbon) and a MSc in Psychological Research Methods (University of Plymouth). He is President-elect (2021-2023) of the Society for Risk Analysis – Europe (SRA-E), scientific committee member - “Risk Communication” panel - at the Portuguese Food Safety & Economic Authority, and a founding member of the Portuguese Observatory for Emerging Risks. He is board member of the Católica Research Centre for Psychological, Family & Social Wellbeing (CRC-W). His applied research is focused on Emerging Risks Perception & Communication and Crisis Informatics, particularly concerning Information and Communication Technologies use during crisis and extreme events. He was Editor-in-Chief of Psychology, Community & Health (PsychOpen) and is currently Associate Editor of Human Behaviour & Emerging Technologies (Wiley). In 2017 he received the Society for Risk Analysis Presidential Merit Award.
