Associate Professor at the FCH – Faculty of Human Sciences, UCP – the Catholic University of Portugal, a member of the UCP Scientific Society, founding member and board member of the Institute of Luso-Brazilian Philosophy, an academic in the Brazilian Academy of Philosophy and the Brazilian Institute of Philosophy. He began his academic career as Professor at the University of the Azores and has served as, FCH Professor Secretary (UCP), Scientific Coordinator of the Scientific Field of Philosophy at the same Faculty and Director of the following UCP R&D units: CLCPB – Centre of Portuguese and Brazilian Literature and Culture; GEPOLIS – Centre of Philosophy and Citizenship Studies; CEFi – Centre of Philosophy Studies (of which he was a founder). He founded and led, through to July 2013, the "Estudos de Filosofia" collection (Universidade Católica Editora). He research interests focus on Portuguese, Luso-Brazilian and Hispano-American philosophic culture, as well as the ethics and philosophy of knowledge, coordinating and participating in these fields in multiple R&D unit research projects, organising national and international congresses, colloquia and seminars. In 2008, he served as President of the Organising Commission for the Commemorations of the 4th Centenary of the Birth of Father António Vieira. A CEFi integrated researcher, he has frequently collaborated with CECC - the Centre of Communication and Culture Science Studies (Catholic University of Portugal), the Study Centre of Portuguese Thinking (Catholic University of Portugal), the Centre of Philosophy (University of Lisbon) and the Institute of Philosophy (University of Porto). Featuring among his many works are the following: Antero de Quental: Uma Filosofia do Paradoxo (PDL, 1993), Filosofia Criacionista da Morte (PDL, 1994), Odisseias do Espírito (Lx, 1996), A Ontologia Integral de Leonardo Coimbra: Ensaio sobre a Intuição do Ser e a Visão Enigmática (Lx, 2003), De Chronos a Kairós: Caminhos filosóficos do Padre Antônio Vieira (Brasil, 2008) and Razão Comovida (Lx, 2011). He scientifically organised and supervised vol. IV of the História do Pensamento Filosófico Português (Lx, 2004). He organised and signed, personally or as co-author, the following titles, among others: Os Longos Caminhos do Ser: Homenagem a Manuel Barbosa da Costa Freitas (Lx, 2003); Immanuel Kant nos 200 anos da sua morte (Lx, 2006); Vergílio Ferreira no cinquentenário de Manhã Submersa: Filosofia e Literatura (Lx, 2007); D. Frei Amador Arraiz no IV centenário da edição definitiva dos Diálogos (Lx, 2010); Simone de Beauvoir: Olhares sobre a mulher e o feminino (Lx, 2010); Uma jornada vieirina em Évora (Lx, 2011); and Mário Saa: Poeta e Pensador da Razão Matemática (Lx, 2013).
