José Lopes de Araújo
Graduated in Law from the Classical University of Lisbon (1984). He practiced law but is now a professional journalist. He joined RTP as a journalist in 1976. He was editor, editor in chief and news reader on RTP-1 between 1979 and 1984, Director of the Regional Centre of the Azores between 1984 and 1995, Coordinating Director of RTP Production between 1995 and 1999, Delegate Director of FOCO and Manager of Edipim-estúdios, two RTP group producers between 2000 and 2003, and Director of RTP Internacional and RTP-África between 2003 and 2007.Since 2008, he has served as Director of Juridical and Institutional Affairs, accumulated with responsibilities for International Relations. He is currently President of the Bruges Group – an Association of twenty European television stations broadcasting internationally. He sits on the Board of Directors of Euronews and is President of its Comité Editorial. He was assistsnt in the Faculty of Letters, of the University of Coimbra, where he lectured on the Theory and Form of Television and Journalism Narration on the Undergraduate Degree in Journalism between 1995 and 1998. Since 1998, he has lectured at the Catholic University of Portugal with subjects including the History of the Media and is currently responsible for the curricular unit Television Communication. He chaired the International Congress "Journalism, Media and Democracy" in 2000. Among other associations, he ia s members of CIMJ and Sopcom Media Studies. He is fluent in English, French and Spanish.
